You can put a dining table near a window if the space allows comfortable movement, the sunlight is managed, and the table material suits the exposure. A window-side dining area can feel bright and pleasant, but placement should be planned carefully.
Start with circulation. Leave enough room for chairs to slide out without hitting the wall, window trim, radiator, curtains, or nearby cabinets. If the window opens inward or has low handles, test the chair position before committing to the layout. In a small room, a round or oval table may make the window area easier to use than a sharp-cornered rectangle.
Sunlight is the next issue. Strong direct sun can warm the tabletop, fade some finishes, and make meals uncomfortable at certain times of day. Wood, veneer, fabric, and some darker finishes may change color over time if they sit in harsh sunlight. Window shades, curtains, UV-filtering film, or rotating decor can help reduce uneven exposure.
Also consider cleaning and condensation. If the window collects moisture in winter, keep the table far enough away so water does not drip or sit on the surface. This is especially important for wood dining tables.
