A standard accent chair is usually sized to seat one adult comfortably, but the exact width varies by style, arms, cushion shape, and frame design. Instead of relying on one standard number, compare the chair's outside width and inside seat width before buying.
Outside width tells you how much floor space the chair takes. Inside seat width tells you how much sitting room you actually get. A chair with thick arms may look wide but have a narrower seat. A slipper chair or armless chair may take less space while still feeling roomy enough for occasional seating.
Measure these details:
