A TV stand should usually be bigger than the TV, at least in width, because it creates better visual balance and gives the screen a more stable-looking base. The stand does not need to be huge, but a narrow console can make the setup look top-heavy.
As a practical rule, choose a stand that is several inches wider than the TV on each side. This matters most when the TV uses two feet instead of a center base. Both feet should sit fully on the surface with no overhang. If the TV is wall-mounted, width still matters because the console anchors the wall visually, even if it is not carrying the screen.
Room scale also matters. A wide sectional sofa, large rug, or long wall can handle a longer media console. In a compact apartment, choose a stand that is just wide enough for balance while still leaving clear walking space around the furniture.
Do not judge by screen size alone. Check the TV's actual width, because a 65-inch screen is measured diagonally, not across the furniture surface. Also check stand weight capacity if the TV will sit directly on top.
For POVISON, browse TV stands and compare console widths against your actual TV width before choosing a design.
